On a recent trip to New Zealand’s South Island, I had a project in mind to capture the many braided rivers in New Zealand.
New Zealand has some of the finest braided rivers in the world but their intricate patterns are only visible from the air. To get the bright blue of the rivers, you need a clear day, not often available in the South Island. We drove about 60 kms up a gravel road on the Eastern side of the glacial Lake Pukaki and I launched a Mavic 3 drone with a Hasselblad sensor. After numerous captures, I focussed my attention to where the braided rivers finished their journey into the lake itself to get this viewpoint.

It takes a great deal of consistency, and an incredible amount of luck mixed with a little
skill to create these chances. I watched this young humpback whale just 500 metres
from shore breaching non-stop for over half an hour, continuing across the horizon
even after my drone flight ended. We are extremely lucky in Australia to witness these
incredible giants right on our doorstep

Image of the Orion Nebula, NGC 1976, a large diffuse nebula in the constellation of Orion approximately 1350 light years away and about 25 light years across.
The image is a total of 7 hours of exposures shot with a ZWO FF65 APO Quintuplet telescope with a ZWO AS12600 MC DUO sensor astro camera and tracked with a ZWO AM5 Harmonic Equatorial Mount. The tracking software controlling the exposure was ASIAIR and processed in Pixinsight software.
The image was captured on a clear night in a clearing off the road to Regans Ford, a small town located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 110 kilometres north of Perth in the Shire of Dandaragan.
