The Tower
This modern skyscraper interrupts the classical skyline of downtown Chicago. Unremarkable but for the disruption it creates in the flow of the surrounds, its mass asserts a sense of dominance over the rich heritage of Chicago’s historical architectural character. The spatial imbalance highlights the tension between historic urban grain and contemporary commercial aspiration.

Constructed in 1892 as a Library and Memorial for American Civil War Veterans, the Chicago Cultural Centre now serves as the city’s ceremonial centre. Beneath a majestic Tiffany glass dome, light dances over mosaics crafted from mother-of-pearl and shimmering glass, illuminating scrolls, flowerets, and the names of great authors inscribed in marble. Through the window, the skyline offers a stark counterpoint—inviting reflection on the shifting value of seeking knowledge and learning across generations.

The streets of Saigon bustle with activity 24/7, but within the tenements, life remains quiet and grounded. A woman descends a stairwell in District 4 — a building marked for imminent demolition. For many long-term residents, relocation is uncertain, as affordable housing in the city becomes increasingly scarce. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, March 2025

The shrines of Bhaktapur Durbar Square are centuries-old sanctuaries where Hindu devotion and Newari heritage intertwine. Each temple reflects the deep spiritual and royal traditions of Nepal. For Hindu worshippers, these sites are not only places of prayer but living symbols of divine presence and cultural identity.
